Parents who are separating or divorcing may need additional guidance in helping their children cope with the separation/divorce. This brochure will give you the outline for a wonderful program being offered right here in Plaquemines Parish that has benefitted many children nationally. Call Mrs. Rabalais if you have any additional questions or need further assistance with this topic.
Brian Klebba of the U.S. Attorneys’ Office sees the dangers lurking on the Internet every day as the coordinator of Project Safe Childhood. One goal of Project Safe Childhood is to raise the public’s awareness about the threat and prevalence of online sexual predators and to provide the tools and information to educators, parents, and children to help reduce the likelihood of harm to children and to assist law enforcement in their investigations through the reporting of incidents involving minors. He strongly suggests that we speak openly and regularly with our children about the dangers on the Internet. Establishing a trusting dialogue is important. Finally, he recommends that strict guidelines be placed on computer and cell phone use by minors; including: limiting the amount of time used, monitoring use by blocking certain sites and apps, and checking bills from carriers to see how often and when devices are in use. Mrs. Rabalais sent this letter to families in May 2016 with more information.
