    Learning Studios
At OLPH, our learners are grouped into studios, and our teachers are their guides. Guides will deliver lessons using a combination of whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction. Guides will help students set growth goals, analyze classroom data, and plan instruction according to the needs of the learners.

    Reading and Writing
At OLPH, we believe all students are readers and writers. We know that students get better at reading by reading, and students get better at writing by writing. Our reading and writing block will follow a modified Daily 5 model, with an emphasis on a version of reader workshops and writing workshops.

Each day, students will participate in five different stations during the Daily 5 block:
    • Read to Self: Teaching students to read independently, and providing them with the time to, sets an essential foundation for creating lifelong readers, writers, and learners who are independently motivated.

    • Work on Writing: Students will have sustained choice writing of any form, growing as writers while teachers come alongside to provide just-in-time instruction to meet their individual needs.

    • Lexia: Students will use computers in this station to work on a personalized path based on their current reading level.

    •  Word Work: During Word Work, students experiment with word patterns, high-frequency words, and develop a genuine curiosity for and interest in new and unique words. By playing with words, word patterns, word families, prefixes, suffixes and so on, students hone their knowledge of words and increase their speaking and writing skills. This center will vary, and will be based on class wide and sometimes individual learning needs.

    • Read to Someone:  Reading with someone helps readers, especially developing readers increase areas of comprehension, accuracy, fluency and prosody. It also increases reading involvement, attention and collaboration Sometimes (and often in our 1-3 Studio) that “someone” will be the teacher.

Below you can find the current daily schedule for each studio. This schedule is subject to change/adjustment as the year progresses.
